Why Is Florida So Hard on Golf Cart Batteries?
A golf cart battery in Florida doesn’t get much rest.
People use their carts for golf, neighborhood errands, trips to the marina, and hauling chairs or fishing gear down to the water. More driving means more charging, and more charging inside a hot garage means more strain on the battery, and we’re not even talking about the heat yet.
Battery compartments and garages can become much hotter than the afternoon temperature outside. Lead-acid batteries may briefly deliver more capacity in warm conditions, but that comes at the expense of battery life.
Not to mention that heat also increases self-discharge, so the battery loses energy faster while sitting.
Humidity adds another headache. Moisture, dirt, and salt air can all build up around terminals and connections, particularly if you live on Florida’s coast.
That is why hot-weather batteries need more than a label claiming they work in warm climates. They need to be built for frequent cycling, high temperatures, and the way carts are actually driven here.
